The clock is ticking for the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) but the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet stuck with the venue issue.
Amidst the rising COVID cases in India, it was assumed the league will be shifted to the UAE once again, however, BCCI wishes and prioritizes organizing the event within India. Consequently, it has been decided reportedly that the contest will be summed up behind closed doors in Mumbai.
Notably, Maharashtra was also on the board but one of the top BCCI spokespeople added that three major venues of Mumbai will be used to host IPL 2022 matches without any spectators.
As of now, the IPL 2022 mega auction is set to take place on 12th and 13th February being a two-day event following the addition of two new teams. The tournament schedule, however, is not yet finalized. It is reported either the cash-rich league will inaugurate from the last week of March or from the first week of April.
“IPL 2022 will be held in India without a crowd. Likely venues are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai & Pune if needed,”
“IPL 2022 will be in India only. It will be in Mumbai and will be without a crowd,”
It must be noted that IPL 2022 was entirely played in the UAE, whereas, the second leg of IPL 2021 was once again dragged to UAE after its first leg was temporarily cancelled due to the COVID wave in India.
