Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has revealed that the country will receive the hosting fee, ticket sale fee, and all other finances despite not hosting ACC Asia Cup 2022. The contest was all set to take place in the island nation, but amidst the country's poor economic and political state, the Asian Cricket Council has decided to shift it to the UAE.
Although Sri Lanka successfully hosted Australia and Pakistan, respectively, the ACC fears the security of all Asian teams collectively in a single place. SLC secretary, as quoted by SLC, quoted that,
“Sri Lanka will still receive the US $ 2.5 million hosting fee, 1.5 million ticket sale fees and 2 million fee due to every participating team”,
He maintained,
“But this was solely because the stakeholders doubts due to the prevailing unrest in the country. Had we hosted it Sri Lanka’s economy would have definitely been boosted centred around a tourism build up and upped the country image,”
It means Sri Lanka will enjoy the perks of worth $6 Million despite not hosting the event yet, making efforts and investing to make the event successful. Notably, SLC will remain the host of the Asia Cup 2022, with the event getting under play at the UAE venues.
It must be noted that Asia Cup 2022 is all set to take place between August 27th and September 11th. This time, the ACC contest will take place in the T20 format. The last edition was battled in 2016, when the Indian Cricket Team lifted the trophy.
