Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named their 17-player squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, scheduled to take place from August 27th to September 11th in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Shakib Al Hasan, the biggest name to have emerged from Bangladesh, has been announced to lead the team for the ACC event alongside the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Shakib, who has been making headlines for different controversial topics nowadays, will kick start the team's Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan on August 30th at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The veteran all-rounder is also in charge of the upcoming tri-series, including New Zealand and Pakistan in the Black Caps' realms.
His fate as a skipper was decided after BCB offered him to opt between one; either to end his deal with the betting company or play for Bangladesh. With due respect, the cricketer has terminated his contract with Betwinner News, bringing all uncertainties to an end.

Notably, the board missed the deadline to announce its Asia Cup 2022 squad solving Shakib's issues. Jalal Yunus, the BCB's cricket operations chairman, narrated that,
'We have asked Shakib not to commit such a mistake again' Shakib was "misguided" into the deal with Betwinner and vowed not to repeat the "mistake",
"Shakib admitted his mistake (regarding the Betwinner controversy), but he is important to us. He is still our best player. We had already decided on Shakib being the captain earlier, so we are sticking to it. He thought it was an online news website. He felt he was misguided. He has said he has terminated the (Betwinner) contract. We are hopeful he will not repeat it again. We have asked him not to commit such a mistake again. We have ended the whole thing."
It must be noted that Bangladesh is one of the six teams to compete in Asia Cup 2022, alongside Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and the Qualifier team. The Qualifiers will be decided after playing the qualifying round and will be one from Hong Kong, Singapore, UAE, or Kuwait.
