IPL 2021: Is it possible for MI to qualify?

The fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is on the verge of termination and the teams are battling to qualify for the playoffs. Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who already have made it to the playoffs, now anticipate one more team from, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals but no Sun Risers Hyderabad as the orange jerseys became the first team to get knocked out of the season.

On the one hand, where there are polished and certain chances for KKR to reach the playoffs, the rest of the teams, MI, RR, PBKS are left with unrealistic chances but can still make it to the point through distinct scenarios. The fight for the fourth and the final spot is heated up with RR, MI, PBKS endeavouring to go through. Here is how Rohit Sharma and co can still reach the playoffs.

Notably, PBK's chances are way thinner than the rest of the anticipated teams

How MI can still reach the playoffs?

MI, the five-times IPL winners, are placed at a seventh position on the IPL 2021 points table - a sight that is too rare to witness for the devotees. It might seem unrealistic but there can be possible chances for the blue men to grasp the opportunities winning two of their remaining games versus RR and SRH. The game versus RR is already underway and the fans pray for Sharma's chaps to win it big this time following their poor Net Run Rate momentarily.

Out of 12 games, the MI have won only 5 that makes them with 10 points at an NRR of -0.453. This is somewhat similar to the RR as both teams will have to go through the same struggle phase for reaching the final place.

However, winning the remaining games may not help 'only' but Sharma's men have to wait for KKR's defeat versus RR and win two of the remaining encounters (today vs RR and vs SRH on 8th Oct) with an approx margin of 200 runs combined. RR must lose today in order to get MI qualified. If RR clinch victory in both of their left games (including today vs MI and vs KKR on 7th Oct), it will eliminate both; KKR and MI from the IPL 2021.
