Shahid Afridi, the former player of Quetta Gladiators, has recently disclosed that he had advised the franchise owner, Nadeem Omar, to relieve Sarfaraz Ahmed of his captaincy. Afridi, while talking on a local TV channel, suggested that Sarfaraz would perform better as a batsman if he were not burdened with leading the team.
Afridi mentioned that he had previously discussed with Nadeem Omar before the season to consider playing Sarfaraz only as a player to reduce pressure on him and let him enjoy his game. He also criticised the management of Quetta Gladiators for their poor player selection in the PSL 8 draft, which has led to their current dismal performance in the tournament.
Afridi expressed his disappointment with the team's constant changes to their line-up and questioned the selection of Umar Akmal in the team, pointing out whether his fitness was up to the mark. He concluded that these aspects reflect the lack of seriousness of the team management while picking the squad.
Currently, Quetta Gladiators are at the bottom of the points table, having lost four out of their first five games this season.
